“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Mahatma Gandhi
My friends and family all know I have a bit of an obsession with elephants. They are smart, sensitive, family oriented and incredibly empathetic creatures. Sadly, many elephants are being hunted for the ivory in their tusks everyday, and others are being captured and abused all over the world. PAWS (Performing Animal Welfare Society) is an organization dedicated to helping captive wildlife and protecting animals who have been in abusive environments.
My twin brother, Matt, was born with cerebral palsy, which causes damage to the motor control centers of the brain. Many people born with CP need extra help with daily routines and use wheelchairs and communication devices. Although there is no existing cure, the UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) organization helps fund research toward a cure, and provides resources for families touched by Cerebral Palsy.
Another organization I’ve loved working with is Habitat for Humanity, International. I am the least likely person to help build a home, but somehow they found ways for me to help and lives are changed forever because of this incredible group and their amazing volunteers.
